The reserves bounced back from Wednesdays defeat with a comfortable win.
South Molton 1-6 Bideford Reserves.
A change of formation saw the reserves adapt a more positive attitude and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 20th minute when Richard Chumbley turned in a Nail Heeney Cross. But the hosts were back on terms within a minute when they were awarded a penalty. Rather than drop their heads the young robins again pushed forward and went back in front almost from the kick off when again Chumbley turned in a cross, this time from Matt Bryce. Within two minutes the lead was doubled when Heeney converted a miss hit a free kick from Hector Christie(yes that is right Hector has been known to miss hit things even though he will claim it was a pass). Just before half time Christie got Bideford’s Fourth when this time he got his range right from a free kick on the edge of the area.
The hosts upped their game in the early stages of the second half but the Bideford defence with Oli Cole and Matt Bryce in fine form stood firm and when the Home side did find a way through, keeper Ali Bright was on hand to deal with it. Bideford were unlucky not to increase their lead when the move of the match ended with a pile driver from Elliott Macdonald rattling the home sides cross bar, but Bideford got their reward when Sam Schiller rifled one in off the underside of the bar from 18 yards. The scoring was completed when Christie bundled the ball over the line after a Jack Langford header had been saved.
One interesting stat from the game, Bideford’s starting line up contained only two players over the age of nineteen and three of the nine are still only sixteen.
Next game away to Northam Lions Saturday 27th September ko 3.pm Team A. Blight, M.Cloak, M.Bryce S.Shute O.Cole, N.Heeney (A. White), E.Macdonald R.Chumbley, (A. James), H.Christie, S.Schiller (I. Keen) J.Langford |
